As most of you know, I have been putting more emphasis on practice events that keep us mindful of the existential threats posed by climate chaos and environmental destruction. These threats cannot be thwarted by anything but a radically different view of how we should live our lives–and nothing, in my opinion, is better able to bring about that transformed view than the Buddha-Dharma. I hope, therefore, that you will join us for the recently announced 2023 Wilderness Sesshin. It is one of several ways that we can further the mission of eco-Dharma practice.
But don’t take my word for it. If you are in search of inspiration, please read Josh Meisenheimer’s essay “Sun, Moon, Me,” a narrative about his first wilderness retreat in 2021. What I most appreciate about Josh’s essay is that he reflects an attitude of practice through each phase of his experience, whether it was pleasant (a beautiful sunset) or unpleasant (being too cold), or neutral. We can all learn a lesson from this.
