2023 Wilderness Sesshin

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” —Henry David Thoreau

As part of its ongoing effort to blend traditional Zen practice with increased awareness of our current climate and ecological crisis, Great Wave invites you to participate in its June 2023 Wilderness Sesshin. This special event will begin at 8:00 AM, Thursday, June 22, and end mid-morning on Sunday, June 25. The camp will include traditional forms of Zen practice, such as zazen, teisho,  dokusan, and mindful walking.  Some instruction in simple bushcraft skills will also be offered.

This retreat is open to all, regardless of experience with Zen or backpacking.  However, please note that all participants must be

    • fully vaccinated against COVID-19; and
    • able to hike up to 2 miles with a backpack containing sufficient gear and food to sustain themselves in the wilderness.

The number of participants is limited to 10, so please register no later than June 17 with our Event Registration Form.  Once registered, you will receive detailed information about the event location and how you might best prepare for this wonderful practice opportunity.
